Wars/Detainees/18-yrs. old

I honestly don’t know what the “right” would be doing if President Obama weren’t president. Their aim clearly is to denounce anything he promotes or does. Imagine the work that could get done if our GOP friends focused on the business on hand, not politics and its current color?

U.S. Army Sgt Bowe Bergdahl, who had been captive for five years, is the latest target. Did he desert his company in Afghanistan at the wizened age of 18? If he did, my bet is he’ll be court-martialed. But it’s a lot better than five years of torture by the Taliban. It’s nice how our government works, and getting Bergdahl is one example of what makes it so great.

The trade at Gitmo? Like our CIA and other undercover agencies aren’t watching them. Yeah, we just put them on a plane and said “ta ta.” How about all those others at Gitmo, sitting there for years without legal representation, water boarded now and then, fueling the hatred others have for our country?

Can you spell hypocrisy? We can hold and torture as many Afghan and Iraqi detainees, giving them no rights, for as long as we want because….the United States government stands for Justice? Doesn’t square, does it?

Let’s be grateful one more American didn’t die at the hands of the Taliban. Even if he messed up, because I bet being in Afghanistan at 18-years-old is one frightening proposition. Now we know about one who had a hard time with it. There likely are plenty of others; they just don’t make the nightly news. Plus, Fox News doesn’t make each one headlines day after day when climate change, Syria, any number of other issues contain far more serious details U.S. audiences should know of.

Any chance one of those dyed-in-the-wool GOPers and Tea Party members would decide to wake up each day with an open mind? Any chance the Chicago Cubs will win the 2014 World Series?
